A draw at the end of the day was a fair result with Stranraer fighting hard to evade the play-off place at the bottom of the division and visitors Dundee eager to shrug off their disappointment.
The home side did not have a good start with an early enforced change when Stephen Swift broke down in the pre-match warm-up and had to be replaced before the kick-off by Lee Sharp.
Dundee booked the strong wind but curiously enough it was Stranraer who benefited from the conditions in the 10th minute when Stephen Payne sent over what looked like a great cross which swirled over Dundee keeper Scott Murray, caught the inside of his far post and landed in the other side of the net.
The home team deserved the score as they had been the busier and better side and might well have gone further ahead when there was a strong penalty appeal. Keeper Murray appeared to hold Michael Moore down to get at the ball, but the referee turned down the claim.
Dundee had not made enough of their wind advantage for most of the half, but with three minutes left they grabbed a goal. They had come back strongly into the game but should have attempted more, and Kevin McDonald underlined this lesson when he suddenly shot from all of 22 yards and his rising drive just evaded the home keeper's searching fingers and reached high into the net for the equaliser.
Stranraer in the second half fell away slightly and were no better than the visitors at using the weather advantage. hey did hit the woodwork again, this time with a David Hamilton header, but it was Dundee at the end of the day who were pushing strongly when the final whistle came with the score locked at 1-1.
