Dundee boss Jim Duffy made four changes to his line up in attempt to halt his side's recent poor form.
Roddy McKenzie denied the home team with a good diving save to prevent Steven Milne opening the scoring with only four minutes played.
Lee Makel saw a good effort go inches past the post with 19 minutes gone and moments later David Fernandez fired a 20-yard effort just over the crossbar.
The visitors are creating chances but failing to find the target and Marvin Andrews was the next culprit when he headed over from six yards ten minutes before half time.
Burton O'Brien then shot wide from the edge of the box a minute later.
Five minutes after the interval, Steven Robb fired a left-foot volley just past the post after good play by Lee Mair.
Julian Speroni saved a close-range header from Andrews two minutes later and the home team ran up field where Mark Fotheringham shot narrowly wide from 25 yards.
Dundee took the lead with 59 minutes played when Robb collected a pass on the left from Fotheringham before playing a great pass to the right edge of the box to Steve Milne who fired low past Mackenzie from 15 yards.
With 15 minutes remaining, a good turn and shot in the box by Fernando Pasquinelli was well saved by Speroni in the Dundee goal.
Derek Lilley was next to be denied by Speroni when he shot goalwards from 12 yards after being set up by Richard Brittain with ten minutes remaining.
Dundee's on-loan striker Sebastian Kneissl had a great chance to score his first goal for the club when Fotheringham set him clear on goal in time added on, but the big striker shot high and wide of the target from just inside the box.
That was the final chance of the game and despite the visitors creating numerous chances, the home team collected all three points.
