Hearts finished 2002 with a 2-1 away win at Dundee, thanks to a late Graham Weir strike.

With five minutes played Scott Severin's free-kick took a wicked deflection but Julian Speroni saved well.

Ten minutes later a good run in to the box by Fabian Caballero saw him fire just past Roddy McKenzieÂ’s far post.

Speroni did well to save Andy Kirk's shot after a slip by Barry Smith on 21 minutes.

Ten minutes later Speroni denied Kirk again when he came racing out of his area to clear when Kirk had been sent through by Steven Pressley.

Kirk did eventually get the better of the Dundee keeper with three minutes of the first half remaining, when a long ball into the box by Alan Maybury was missed by two Dundee defenders and Kirk fired home from close range.

The striker had the ball in the net again just after the interval but his joy was short lived due to an offside flag.

With 57 minutes played Dundee grabbed the equaliser when Dave Mackay's deep cross was met by the head of Steve Milne who guided the ball over Macenzie and into the corner of the net.

Mark De Vries went close for Hearts ten minutes later when he dived low to meet Jean Louis ValoisÂ’ cross, but headed just over.

With 80 minutes played the visitors went 2-1 up when a corner from Valois was headed through a crowd of players and into the back of the net by sub Weir.

Speroni did well to deny Hearts a third when firstly he saved Stephen SimmonsÂ’ shot and seconds later denied De Vries, but Hearts still held on to gather three points.
