It's a rather shamefaced website editor who realised that in the euphoria of announcing Lee Wilkie's extended contract he failed to give credit to the three young players who had also signed new contracts on the same day.
No one more than I, with 36 years experience in running kids teams, should have realised that these signings to the kids themselves are every bit as important as the big boys who have already made the grade.
So redfaced and cap in hand I wish all the best to 3 of our brightest up and coming stars, - Kristofer Brash, Callum Macdonald and Dougie Cameron. They may not be household names, but the latter being Kenny's youngest son should spark a bit of interest from those of us who were priveleged to see his old man play. Yet like most Dees fans I know little of these individuals as players. I intend to change all that next season.
On the subject of my boys club, Lincraig, two kids in Dundee's youth team just now, Craig Taylor and Steven Stewart, came through the ranks with the same club. Craig right up to the moment he signed for Dundee and Steven before he moved elsewhere.
It is my plan to go to the Under-21 games next season, the home ones at any rate, and this should give me an idea of the kind of talent Dundee are bringing through. I have contacts there, have known Raymy Farningham since he played for Duncraig in the 70's, and Kenny Cameron, who've I've met many times at the younger kids training sessions held all over Dundee. I also know Stevie Campbell and Gary Ogilvie. It's time I used these contacts to report on the youth system as well. I'll attempt to build a few bridges as the JMB and official website apart these young un's are not given the coverage they deserve. And they are, after all, our future. So, letters will be going out to the guys who run the youth system offering my full support to report on their teams. Watch this space once the new season arrives. My aim is to get direct quotes from the youth and Under-21 team Managers.
