It's the topic that Dundee fans can't get out of their minds. The taste in the mouth is bitter, the speculation changing on a daily basis as club directors make visits to Spain, Paraguay and Italy over the past few weeks, with Ocampo and Bonetti visited at home. Jim Duffy and Walter Smith were also spoken to by officials of the club.
If Ivano Bonetti has his bags packed, ready to return on Tuesday, it is still a very strange scenario and a very odd way to run a football club. I've never heard of a Manager returning like a player on the very day pre-season training is due to begin. I would be very surprised if all other SPL team bosses are not already at their desks preparing for the pre-season matches coming up.
Scotland on Sunday are my chosen newspaper of the day. Their Article entitled "Day of destiny approaches for Bonetti as Dundee regroup for training"
It covers nothing that most Dundee fans haven't read before. The clearing out of Ivano's desk and apartment before going off on holiday, despite his promises to the fans who asked him that he would most definitely be here in time for the start of the season.
What Scotland on Sunday does add that is new is direct quotes from Peter Marr himself. After the usual denials that Ivano's job is up for grabs, he finishes with an amazing statement.
"I am not anticipating a change, but you can never tell in football," he said.
"Look at what happened to David O’Leary. We would never have expected that."
So is Peter Marr preparing the fans for the inevitable? And is there a contingency plan in case he does not return? Ocampo? Duffy? Walter Smith? Ketsbaia?
One thing's for certain. If Ivano does not return on Tuesday, few Dundee fans will have it in their heart to show any further sympathy for his cause and will be baying for his demise. There can be no more extended holidays and no more petulant fall outs with players and Referees.
I hope he returns, but only if he still has the heart for the fight. If he doesn't have the bottle any more to take Dundee any higher he should step aside and let someone come in who has.
