First off i have to say all the best Robert for the future, secondly the ceo has handled this in a disgraceful way, only to be out done by a group of directors who have sat back and watched this saga unfold.
At half time of yesterday's match with Kilmarnock at Dens, legend Rab Douglas got his chance to wave farewell to the Dens faithful after it was revealed he won't be with the club next season.
Rab took to the pitch with Club President and fellow legendary goalkeeper Pat Liney for an emotional send off as the 4000 home supporters rose to their feet for a standing ovation befitting of the man who has become 'one of our own' over his two spells with the club.
He joined the club for a first time as a 25 year old in 1997, having already won the third division with Livingston. His first season at Dens, he became a fans favourite as an ever present he helped the club to promotion to the Premier League.
Rab continued as Dundee's number one for the next two season and a half seasons under firstly Jocky Scott then Ivano Bonetti. In October of 2000, Celtic came in with an offer of £1.2 million which was too good to refuse and Rab was on his way. An emotional farewell in front of a packed away end at Pittodrie for a match that saw Claudio Caniggia make his debut for Dundee was Rab's last action before a move which was to bring him SPL titles, Champions League experience and an appearance in the UEFA Cup Final.
After 5 years at Celtic, which as well as bringing him medals brought him the majority of his 19 caps for Scotland, he moved down South, joining Leicester City before spending time on loan with Millwall, Wycombe and Plymouth.
In 2008, Alex Rae brought Rab back to Dens where he was installed as number one again. His second spell at Dundee has seen him play under five different managers in as many years.
Rab added another medal to his collection in November 2009. Along with Eric Paton, as club captain, Rab lifted the Alba Challenge Cup after an incredible victory over Inverness Caley Thistle which saw Dundee come from two down to win the match 3-2.
When Dundee entered administration for the second time in seven years in 2010, Rab was one of the players who remained at the club. Playing a major role as in the team over came a 25 point deduction, Rab also stepped up as assistant to new manager Barry Smith.
He was again an ever present in 2011/12 as Dundee finished in a second place position which in the end was enough to see them move up into the SPL replacing Rangers. In what would be Rab's last season for Dundee he started by “rolling back the years” with a clean sheet on day one at Kilmarnock.
Other highlights of the season for Rab included a penalty save at Tynecastle which helped Dundee to their first win of the season and in what would be his penultimate game for the club. Rab put in a man of the match display to keep St. Mirren at bay in a first half which The Buddies dominated. The team came out in the second half and turned the game giving John Brown his first victory in charge of Dundee.
303 games for Dundee with 99 clean sheets, it's says it all about his time at Dens that in 2010/11 Rab was awarded the Andy De Vries trophy after he won Dundee's player of the year for an unprecedented third time.
Rab is one of the few modern day legends and we'd like to wish him all the best in the future.
