This Saturday, May 25th, Dens Park will host a charity match between two sets of supporters, one from either side of the same street. Fans of Dundee FC will compete against a similar team from across the road in a game to raise money for the Homeless World Cup campaign
The two teams will comprise up to eighteen players, with each pledging to raise a minimum of £150 to the charity, and will be managed by ex players, Brian Scrimgeour will manage the Dees, while Dave Bowman will be in charge of the opposition. The Dundee team has now undergone over two months of training sessions under the expert eye of 'Scrimmy', culminating in two friendly games in the last two weeks, to get the squad prepared for the big day. Brian spoke to the Society to tell us how things have gone so far. 'We have been working with the guys now for over two months, and that is mainly so they all get to know one another. Playing at Dens will be a big occassion, and while we had little control over who turned up, what we can do is make sure they are all familiar with each other. Everybody wants to win this game, and it will be no different for our opponents, so we have to make sure we do all we can to get a result.'
'The guys have had a couple of practice matches now, and these games help give me an idea of how the game should be approached, we have tried players out in different positions, and different formations, and hopefully can have the team set up at the weekend to go out and do themselves and Dundee FC proud.'
'At the end of the day though, this is all about the experience of playing at Dens, the guys will all get strips with their names on, and these are strips from the 'Deefiant' season, the club and Society has gone to great lengths to make this day as memorable as possible, so it would be great to see a big crowd there to support the boys.'
