Dundee legend will never forget the day the dark blues won the league in 1962,because he never had a drop to drink.
And as the dee's kick of the 5oth aniversary celebrations of that famous title win with the launch of a special commerorative club tie,Liney who is now honorary president at dens park, was only to keen to travel down memory lane.
I can scarcely believe it was fifty years ago he said, proudly sporting the new tie he said "it feels like it was yesterday"
"I can remember virtually every game of that season, and il never forget them""And that is down to refusing a drink when we lifted the trophy,i did that because i knew id want to remember that day for the rest of my life.
"Gordon Smith and i both drank orange juice because we didnt want to forget a second.thats obviously the game i remember the most of all,and its fitting that the club should mark the aniversary, and if im involved in that then i will be very happy.
The commemorative tie, which features a star added to the club crest,is just the first in a series of moves planned to celebrate the greatest achievement in Dundee's history.
These will build as the season progresses, culminating in a gala dinner at the caird hall on sunday april 29th 2012-fifty years and one day after Liney and his team mates lifted the trophy at muirton park.
But as far as the league winning goalie is concerned,it will be a celebration realy worth having,if the current team can do their bit by clinching promotion this season,
"That would be very special, and if we can get a consistent run going,we will be in with a real good shout, with the way the first divison is this season, everyone has a good chance to get themselves moving up the league, and we are no different,
"Its nice to look back but if we can get a bit of success now, that would be fantastic and make the 50th anniversary even better,he continued,it doesnt matter what the situation is,whether its football related or not those memories are always there, you will bump into somebody and it will come up,everything comes flooding back at that point and you find you can describe every kick,it might seem like a wee thing but buying a club tie gives the fans a chance to play their part in commemorating that day.
I will certainly be wearing mine with pride.
Pat you are indeed a legend in the Dundee fans eyes
