The man who was the face for D4L in 2003/04,yesterday kept his promise to resign, broken hearted at having to leave in thisposistion,he has suffered verbal attacks from fellow fans and a campaign of abuse on the internet because of his failure to go public on boardroom concerns that existed over benefactor calum melville since last year.
He insists that he wants no sympathy and that it should go to the people who have lost their jobs.Despite his sorrow,he has admitted that even with the benefit of hindsight he does not feel he andd his fellow directors would have acted differently if faced with the same scenario again.
I am brokenhearted and i have been confronted ,which isnt nice for my family,on friday i was the one asking the players to go and see the administrator on an individule basis. This was the club i have supported all my life .and the one i joined to help in exactly the same posistion.Iv left it in the sameplace and accept my share of responsibility,it is also the reason he refuses toblame fans who have had a go at him.
On saturday night i was accosted in sainsburys, and it was a bit of a shouting match,it was by a guy, who,if i was in his posistion,i would have done exactly the same.Knight has asked the telegraph to give himthe chance to let supporters know how this crisis ame about. You have to back to the situation when melville came on board, there was an anual defecit of between £200,000 and £350.000 depending on cup runs and that,Bob Brannan had put £200,000 in John Bennett had put in£100.000 and then another £200,000 we had a cup game against celtic and had sold kevin macdonald, and that had covered previous deficits, the season before last we were faced with a stark choice,we were going to have to slash the budget,to be at a break even posistion. That would have meant reducing the squad to 14 or 15 players plus the youths. Its fair to say performanceson the park had went south and therefore you run the risk of reduced revenues.
Youd be be losing money and then get into that never ending downward spiral,so bob came up with the idea of advertising to see what we could get back............to be continued
