How Did We Lose This One?

Paul Walker's match report will hopefully be online by tomorrow.

How we lost this game I'm still struggling to come to terms with. I missed the entire first half due to a serious pile up on the main A77 road into Kilmarnock from Glasgow. I was 15 minutes from Kilmarnock at quarter to two and didn't arrive until 10 past 4, in time to see the second half only, spending a frustrating time in a huge tailback that stretched for almost 5 miles.

I had listened on the radio, heard how Killie took the lead and was in Kilmarnock when Juan Sara equalised.

Temuri Was Loved By the Toon Army

When I witnessed Temuri Ketsbaia fire Dundee into the lead I thought I was to witness a fine win as we were playing some beautiful possession football and passing divinely.

When Gavin Rae fired over from a good position, I felt the game was going to turn and it did. Some spectacular goalkeeping from Speroni kept Killie out but when Andy McLaren fired in a superb equaliser the old feeling of dread was upon me once more.

We should have sealed a win that would have been thoroughly deserved when Marshall punched a ball down towards the penalty spot. With three Dundee players there a goal looked certain but they all seemed to get in each other's way and the ball sailed over the bar.

90 minutes on the clock and the old Dundee failing of losing last minute goals and headed ones at that, surfaced once more, a brilliant switch of play from the right wing to the left, a perfectly judged cross, and Andy McLaren was there to head magnificently home to steal all 3 points.

Result, despair and misery when all looked so bright half an hour earlier. With 3 home games to come over the next fortnight, against Aberdeen, Livingstone and Motherwell, the top 6 place looks impossible to reach now, especially with Dunfermline and Hearts both winning. I believe 7th is the best we can hope for and then 5 games in which to blood some more youngsters before the end of the season.

It now looks like season 2002/03 will be Ivano's final chance. I for one still have some faith left in his ability to turn the tables and finally produce the goods this team deserves. I remain faithful, I remain loyal to the aims of those who run this club. We must bear the cross until it all begins to happen, and I still believe it will. But then my blood's dark blue and always will be.
