The Dens Park club circumvented their transfer embargo by taking Hyde from Lochee United, although he did not make a single outing for the junior side.
Hyde turned out as a trialist for Dunfermline in their 1-0 win at Ross County on Tuesday.
After the player's agent approached the Fife club, Hyde appeared as a 77th-minute substitute as the Pars moved to the top of the table.
"Obviously, Dundee cannot sign anyone," Dunfermline manager Jim McIntyre told the club website.
"He played particularly well against us and scored a couple on Saturday. We felt that he gives us another option.
"He has signed as a amateur and we are pleased to have him.
"We don't know how long Andy Kirk will be out with his back problem so we needed a little bit more cover in there."
