When the SPL decided Dundee wouldn't be allowed to enter the top league as the ground wasn't up to scratch, he built two new stands in record time to prove his allegiance to his boyhood dream team.
He is a ruthless businessman who sacked McCormack, Scott and Bonetti, yet few can deny that all 3 were the right men for the job at the time he brought them in. The likes of Caniggia, Ketsbaia, Nemsadze, Carranza, Caballero, Khizanishvilli, etc., names that will be toasted for years to come by all of a dark blue persuasion, arrived due to his desire to bring in Managers with the foresight and determination to prove that Dundee were not a second rate outfit and could attract class players to Dens Park.
The news that he was hospitalised on Monday night and is recovering in Ninewells Hospital, came as a shock to most fans reading tonight's Evening Telegraph. It is hoped he will be in his usual seat for the Derby match on Saturday.
It is a fitting reminder to us all that those who put their money where their mouths are in the cause of a beloved football team are at risk because of the stress and strains of the modern game.
My concerns are more simplistic. As an old school friend and one who drank in Peter's Mains of Claverhouse pub in the years before he became the owner of the team he loved as a boy, I can only add my best wishes to one who will become a Dundee legend in the years ahead. Get well, Pete, we love you and what you've done for Dundee Football Club.
Please post get well messages on the messageboard and they will be personally sent to Peter Marr.
