Disaster For Javier Artero

Last updated : 28 August 2002 By Dave Webster
It is expected that Javier Artero, fondly known as Harry to Dundee fans, will announce tomorrow that he has lost his fight to continue playing football.

An Artero Goal

When he was diagnosed as having M.S. fans from all over poured in their best wishes, none more so than our rivals from across the road who were gutted at his illness. Jim McLean personally delivered a get well card.

Javier's return to football was welcomed by all, though it was obvious to those who had seen him at his best he was far short of full fitness, and sadly never regained his highest level again.

Whilst praying for Giorgi to remain a Dee in a previous article I felt very guilty. In my greed to keep the Georgian captain I overlooked a far more crucial event taking place. A man having to retire at a very young age for a footballer. Let's ensure our prayers are with Javier tonight. I met him only once and was stunned by his warmth and humility.

Let's hope he can find a job of some kind inside football, maybe even at Dens. Surely a testimonial match will be arranged.

There will be a tribute to Harry Artero on this site sometime tomorrow night. God bless, Harry, may the force be with you.
