As anyone who visits the Andy Penman Lounge on match days will know, there are two people who are always there, organising the buffet, collecting money at the door, selling raffles and entertaining guests. George and Ann Harris work tirelessly throughout the day and with both being naturally shy and retiring types, it is a job that was pretty much tailor made for the pair of them. On top of all these duties, George and Ann also take care of many of the charity guests that attend every home game, making sure they are seated, sorting out a half time cup of tea, and generally making sure they enjoy the match day experience.
But where were they on 26th November for the Falkirk game? The answer to this mystery could be found in the Boardroom, where George and Ann were the guests of new Board Member Harry MacLean.
Society volunteer Grant Cook caught up with the pair, to find out how their day went. While Ann was easy to get hold of, and willing to sit down and chat for a few minutes, tracking down George - who had clearly missed the banter with his Penman lounge buddies - proved more problematic, the man just wants to talk to everyone!
Ann was more than happy with how the day had gone, as she told Grant "today has been absolutely fantastic, Harry had invited us into the Boardroom as a thank you for working in the Penman Lounge, where we generally are every home game. The Boardroom visit was great from start to finish; we were really treated like royalty, and introduced to all the other guests. Alex Totten was in there, he was a very nice man, and he even admitted that the better team had won on the day. Maurice Kidd and Scott Glenday also presented me with a lovely bouquet of flowers, and I really was not expecting that, so yes, it was a great day, and obviously the icing on the cake was on the park, the result was fantastic."
By now, George had done his rounds, and at the insistence of Ann, managed to sit down long enough to share a few thoughts on his day. "Today was fantastic, an absolute five star day. It was a real privilege to be invited into the Boardroom, and a pleasure to meet Alex Totten - that man's knowledge of football is unbelievable. Pat Liney was also great, and I got to listen to some of his legendary tales.
"Maurice and Scott presenting Ann with a fantastic bouquet was a really nice touch as well, and I would like to thank them for taking the time to do that, it was a real surprise for her, and really shows us how much we are appreciated here, so thanks to Harry for the invitation, it was very much appreciated, and a great day. I would also like to thank Davie Craig, for helping us out, and taking over our responsibilities here in the Penman, without his help, I am not sure we could have accepted the invitation."
