The Dundee FC Supporters’ Society are delighted to welcome the Tesco Charity Committee and Alzheimer Scotland to Dens this Saturday as part of our continuing Community Initiatives.

Alzheimer Scotland is the leading dementia organisation in Scotland.  They campaign for the rights of people with dementia and their families and provide an extensive range of innovative and personalised support services to help people with dementia, their carers and families.  Their members include carers, relatives, people with dementia, professionals, groups and organisations.

Alzheimer Scotland, along with the Alzheimer’s Society, is Tesco’s Charity of the Year for 2011, with the aim of raising £5million across the UK over the course of the partnership, through staff and customer fundraising.  In Scotland, this money will bring dementia information, advice and support to people in communities all around the country, helping to build a better future for people with dementia.

The projects being funded for Alzheimer Scotland include:

•    The Dementia Community Roadshow, which will visit Tesco car parks all around Scotland from October 2011. It will help raise awareness, provide vital information and confidential advice on dementia, direct people to essential, local services and encourage people concerned about their memory to seek help from their GP

•    Dementia Advisors, who will help families after diagnosis, getting them the information, support and advice they need.

Matthew Ingledow of the Tesco Charity Committee told us "This year Tesco CSC are supporting a very worthwhile Charity in Alzheimer Scotland, we have linked with Dundee FC for this Saturday to give out important information on the impact Alzheimers has on individuals and their families.  Working with Dundee FC has helped us inform a number of the Dundee community while raising money for this worthwhile cause."

Society Community Director Jacqui Robertson said, “We’re delighted to welcome Tesco and Alzheimer Scotland to Dens this weekend.  I’m sure most people will have been affected in some way by Alzheimers, or know someone who has.  We hope that, by inviting Tesco and Alzheimer Scotland along to Dens, it will at least in some small way help raise awareness of the condition, and help them with their fundraising activities.”
