Peter and Jimmy Think Again Please

Peter & Jimmy Think Again Please

There's an incredible amount of debate going on in Scottish football just now. Most of it concerns the price of turning up and watching your team. The Dark Blues are really struggling to attract a crowd just now, which is not really a great surprise considering the price of going to Dens.

As things stand we will close down if crowds continue at the level of the home game with Livingston. This is not scaremongering. We just couldn't afford to continue.

That’s why we at Dundee Mad feel the time has come for a last throw of the dice.

Its time to drastically cut the prices of admission and to improve profit by other means.

We believe that loyal Dundee FC season ticket holders could live with this even though many struggled to pay in advance. They want the club to survive, to not only survive but to compete on the park.

Lets look at an example, a very simple example.

At current prices

Crowd v Livingston 4385.

Approx Season ticket holders 2800

Paying customers approx 1585 @ £20 (we know not everyone pays this) means gate income of £31,700.

At reduced prices

Anticipated crowd v Livingston 6000

Approx Season ticket holder 2800

Paying customers approx 3200 @ £12 (again a rough figure based on Max admission) means gate income of £38,400.

Now as well as this each and every paying customer has the extra money in their pocket so put 20p on a pie, put 25p on a programme, put 10p on a cup of tea.

In effect you're doing what every government has done with economic policy throughout history. In times of hardship try to get the economy going by putting the money back into peoples pockets and getting them to spend in other ways thereby driving your income up.

In addition you make your product more attractive against the opposition. There are a limited amount of football fans in the city of Dundee so we should be trying to attract as many as we can to become Dundee fans.

In fact if I were on the board of DUFC I'd have done this already with the intention of wiping us out !!

Someone needs to take a lead in Scottish football and I'm sure if you changed the admission to reflect the hard times that many people are facing at home you'd see a big increase.

Our proposed prices?? Well here's something to get the debate going:-

Waged Adults £12

Students £5

Unemployed and pensioners £5

Kids Under 16 £5

Please consider our proposals. It looks like we have desperate times at present. Lets take the desperate, but brave, measures required. Then and only then can we be appealing to fans and we think you'd have the right to complain if they don't turn up.
