As Dundee Football club sit in mid table of the 1st Division you would imagine that generally speaking the fans would be disgruntled and disappointed.
You'd be wrong.
After the trials of administration, which must now be confined to the history books as soon as possible by the removal of the debt from the club, and then relegation from the SPL we had possibly the grimmest season in the entire history of our club. This season however there are signs of improvement and stability throughout the club from Chairman Bob Brannan down through Dave McKinnon and Alex Rae to the players and the supporters who so desperately want to see a winning team on the park.
On the whole the Dark Blue hordes can see that Alex Rae has the team going in the right direction, after all we expected that the only way we'd be leaving the 1st Division this year was to go down to the 2nd. Promotion is still only a very distant possibility but to even have a chance was unthinkable only 2 or 3 months ago.
Neither Dave McKinnon nor Alex Rae are losers. They are both staking their hard earned reputations on doing a good job for Dundee Football Club. In this they have valuable help from Dave Farrell who deputises for the gaffer when he's on the park.
As the season of goodwill approaches we look forward to a debt free Dundee Football Club. A Dundee Football Club that can invest in a few more players if we are within touching distance of the leaders. Who'd have imagined that as player after player (and in some cases we use the term loosely) left for pastures new? What we have now though is a team of decent hard working professional footballers who are fighting for each other and showing some pride in taking the field in the Dark Blue.
We have a growing band of young fans again who are the future of the club and we were very close to losing this generation thanks to the mismanagement of the past.
We have a team on the park who can bring a smile to the faces of those who have spent the last three years or so fighting to even keep the club alive and the doors open.
We have at last reached the stage where we can be forward looking and proud again instead of worrying about keeping the doors open or where we can hold the next fundraiser.
The club is now being run by professionals, people who know what they are doing and who can manage the finances responsibly. People who will not allow us to over stretch and live beyond our means.
Last night the management team met with members of Dee4Life for an informative evening where questions were put and answers were given. No secrecy, no waffle, just plain facts and truth. That must be the way our club continues on, with complete transparency and a mutual understanding of needs and expectations where the fans understand the limits and the club understands our hopes.
The final piece of the jigsaw should be in place soon with the debt restructuring and then we can close the door on our darkest days.
The we can all move forward together and work towards returning to the top league in Scotland. Who imagined we'd ever manage that again?
You'd be wrong.
