Dee Day for Dundee fans as they push for greater shareholding in Club
Dee4life will launch a fundraising campaign at Dens Park on Saturday, 3rd of June 2006 that will hopefully see them increase their shareholding to a minimum of twenty six percent. Dee4life are hoping fans will attend in an all out effort to raise as much funds as possible. The money will not only help increase their shareholding, but as part of the Club's new financial structure and business plan, will assist in raising the working capital that is essential for the season ahead.
Gretna owner Brooks Mileson, who is a known backer of the Supporters Trust movement in general, will be the guest speaker at the launch, and he along with Trust Chairman George Knight, and Dundee FC Chairman Bob Brannan, will highlight the importance of the fans and the business community contributing to the cause. BBC`s Jim Spence will be holding a live edition of “90 minutes” from 2.00-3pm on Radio Scotland from Dens.
Trust Secretary Andy Gurvan explained, “now's the time 4 action and in the dash for cash it is important that we get as many fans as possible contributing what they can afford”. Andy said, “ Our minimum target figure is one hundred and fifty thousand pounds, which on average equates to three thousand fans donating fifty pounds each, and to enable them to do this we will have credit card, cheque and cash facilities available on the day and thereafter”. A deadline of July 31st has been targeted to reach the required amount.
Andy also mentioned “ all funds raised will be put in to a ring fenced trust account until the share transaction is ready to complete”. Current owners Peter and Jimmy Marr have stated that they would be willing to dilute their shareholding to twenty five percent, providing all other shares are sold and the fans can reach twenty six percent. This would satisfy the Marr brothers to the extent that no one individual would have overall control of the Club and the long term interests of the Club would be protected by the fans.
Dee4life would like to say a special thanks to Ian Ure for backing their efforts, and appropriately the fundraising campaign will be launched as “It's Ure Dundee” and will commence at 12.30pm.
