We've done it. Many would have doubted that the target of £152,000 could have been reached in such a tight timescale.
The campaign started just under two months ago and the efforts of fans across the globe, has meant that Dee4Life have reached the target right on schedule.
On the launch day, Gretna owner Brooks Mileson pledged that if Dee4Life could raise the first £122,000 by the end of the campaign, he would contribute the remaining £30,000. That day has now come and thanks to the continuing efforts of fans in raising funds and the ongoing financial restructuring of the club, the campaign will continue, in an effort to reach the second goal. This will mean raising another £83,000 and although a daunting target, would mean Dee4Life becoming the majority shareholder at Dundee FC.
Dee4Life Trust Chairman, George Knight was delighted that with the help of fans and the Gretna owner, the target had now been reached bang on schedule.
George said, "I'd like to thank everyone who made a donation or hosted a fund-raising initiative, and there have been some truly admirable efforts."
"Our total is made up of cash we have already received and pledges made by fans and groups."
He continued, "All of the monies which have taken us to the figure that triggered Brooks' very kind donation have come from fans' personal donations and initiatives."
"I've spoken to Brooks and he's delighted. It was just a brief chat, however, as he is still recovering from his recent surgery."
"I'm sure every Dundee fan is very grateful to him and, on behalf of our support, I have thanked him and wished him well with his recovery."
"Once again, the fans of this club have stepped up to the plate and demonstrated their desire to see this club move forward."
"The opportunity to purchase these shares is probably a once-in-a-lifetime chance, and I am delighted the opportunity has been grasped by both hands."
"If we were to own 26% of the club, it gives the fans rights, including the power of veto in any major decisions."
George added "We also have a social evening at Deja Vu on Saturday, and that will give us a chance to celebrate."
Dundee director Peter Marr said he was 'delighted' with the fans' efforts.
He said, "They have obviously worked very hard and passionately to get to their target. We have a board meeting this Saturday, and I'm sure George Knight will bring us up to speed on these developments."
