Dee4Lifes ‘It’s URE Dundee’ campaign was boosted by a sizeable donation of £3000 from Edinburgh based Dundee supporters Club The Capital Dark Blues on Sunday. The Club was formed more than 20 years ago and the proceeds are the direct result of a series of organised fundraising events staged by the Club, many of which have been hosted by Dundee fan Pete Fenwick at his restaurant ‘Fenwicks’ in the Capital.
Club President Graeme Cook commented ‘ we have been raising money over a period of time, but have held on to it until the time was right. We held a meeting recently and unanimously agreed that there would never be a better time to invest in the club. This is a great opportunity for the supporters to have a say in the way the club will be run in the future and it is important that we don't miss this chance’.
The DSA affiliated Capital Dark Blues have been in existence for over 20 years and most of their members have seen the high and lows over that period. It is not so long ago that they had 2 full buses at the cup final and 56 members in Perugia.
Graeme continued ‘Most of our members have now lived in Edinburgh for a considerable number of years and that has meant our kids have been born and gone to school here. Despite that, almost to a boy and girl they are Dark Blues through and through and season ticket holders. It is important that they will still be follow Dundee in 40 years time, like myself. Special mention must go to Fenwick's Restaurant, whose owner Dundee fan Pete Fenwick has hosted our Burns Supper for the last 3 years. The majority of the £3,000 has been raised at those events’.
Scott Glenday received the cheque at Edinburgh Castle from members Bob Devlin, Stephen Hotchkis, Dave Ellis and junior members Ella, Claire, Dave and Alex, he thanked the them and their group for their hard work, commitment and generosity. The donation is the largest received to date by Dee4life and takes the total of the monies donated to over £80,000.
Scott commented ‘ This is another fine effort by a group of committed fans to the Dundee FC cause, everyone at the Trust was delighted and very grateful when Graeme contacted us to say they were ready to make their donation. If enough supporters and supporters groups get behind the campaign it certainly has every chance of being a success. It’s about everybody that wants it to succeed doing something, DSA member clubs such as this, non affiliated groups such as those at the Planet Bar (who recently handed over £2330) and individual supporters alike – everyone can offer something. There’s four weeks of the campaign left and many people are out there doing their bit to raise cash, we’re hopeful that come the end of July we shall reach our minimum target of generating enough cash to buy a 26% shareholding in the Club. We’ve still a bit to do if we are to reach the point where Brooks Mileson comes in with his kindly offered pledge,it’s in our own hands ’.
The Trust are hosting an Open Day at Dens kicking off at noon on Saturday, entry is free, the players are making an appearance and there will be various activities ongoing throughout the day.
