As reported in the press there was sad news when Bobby Flavell passed away this week.
He was born in 1921 in the village of Annathill in North Lanarkshire.
Bobby was unique amongst Dees in that he scored goals in two winning cup finals.
Bobby wore the Dark Blue Number 9 with distiction and played 98 games scoring 51 goals.
Bobby played and scored in 2 League Cup Final Wins in 1951 and in 1952 scoring in the 3.2 win over Rangers and scoring the 2 goals in our 2.0 victory V Kilmarnock.
Bobby was signed from Hearts who held his registration after signing him from Airdrie (but his last club was Millianairos of Bogoto )for £6000 in 1951 which at the time was our record transfer fee.
After leaving Dens Bobby went on to play for and coach St Mirren before becoming manager at Ayr Utd for only 17 days then returning to Paisley to become manager of St Mirren.
Later Bobby became first a manager at Albion Rovers then latterly a director.
The term Legend is used far too much these days but there is absolutely no doubt Bobby Flavell cemented his place in the history of Dundee FC and truly was a legend.
Our thoughts are with his family.
