Dear Peter,
Cast your mind back to the 2003-cup final – you arranged a post match doo (it was either at the Hilton or the Apex) for 400, hoping to celebrate a Scottish Cup win – something the Club hadn't managed in 93 years. George Knight was then the Chairman of the DSA, and you showed how much the fans meant to you then when you didn't think despite his position that he was worthy of an invite. Something that wouldn't have bothered George, but something that I found strange at the time given another 399 people were invited.
Six months later you invited the same George Knight down to your house, he attended along with myself, Ryan Ireland and John Langlands. You revealed the Clubs debts were £20M or thereabouts, we were heading into admin and you wanted we the fans to assist.Dee4Life was born that night ironically at your request – something you should always keep in mind. You appear to have treated us like a brolly since – we're only needed and treated with respect when it's raining.
We took up the challenge and I've spent my time ever since doing everything I can possibly think of to do just that. day and night, every day. You've had flack aplenty along the way and always managed to deflect it by intimating that you'd move on if you got the chance and more recently regularly stating that the Marr shareholding was up for grabs at a pound .I have to say when you told me on Saturday that you reserved the right to stay regardless as it was your Club, and that I and other loyal Dees are customers - I have to tell you I was grossly insulted. I have since questioned in my own mind why if that is the case I've stood at the top of the stairs week in week out collecting pennies from pensioners and children, hard earned cash from working people only too willing to assist the Club they love. Why like many others despite being served up dross we've continued to travel the miles and spend our money. If it was always your Club why wasn't it always your debt, if you had made money out the signings during the Bonetti era, it would have your profit I'm sure. Doubt that you'd have been at the top of the stairs handing out cash.
I've heard of your holidays, your homes , nurseries ,nightclubs, pubs , taxis , hotels , motors etc …and always said fair doos - the boys done well and there is as he says no alternative. However I've also always said to myself if Peter isn't willing to cover the cost of pre season trips, overnight stays, wages, shortfalls, youth teams and even footballs then he must be serious.
I want you to know that I actually admire some of the qualities you posses and that you've thought me several lessons in life along the way .In some ways I actually admire you, local lad done good, determination to succeed .If some of that had been in the dressing room last season we wouldn't have got relegated.
I'll never do anything to jeopardise the chances of my clubs survival, but if I sit back and don't point out clearly to you that when the investment and season ticket drum is banged more folk will hear it if you have gone then I'd be short changing the people I am in the room representing.
George, Mark and Alex and myself put in hours aplenty prior to Saturdays meeting and the portable goalposts made us all look and feel really stupid. However I take no pride in admitting due to the less than satisfactory response we received that I don't know where to go or what to do now for the best. You have us by the short and curlies as we'll all do nothing that might do the club any harm – something you should perhaps also consider.
Tonight's Tele tells the world you want to pull the other fans groups together – why not tell them the presentation and the slides we had on Saturday also said just that. The only time you paid any attention to it was when you realised you weren't on them.
The Trust has always stated its intentions to bring together as many fans as possible and endeavour to utilise the democratic, transparent, accountable framework it provides for both the good of the Club and the community as a whole.
You talk about the Development Club- myself, Alex and George were almost chased out of a meeting when the Trust was set up trying to convince them to come on board at the off.
Peter it is not personal, I know what's at stake here and I'll do nothing to put that at risk, but I'm stating the obvious surely when I say we'll get one hit at the ball, and it stands best chance of hitting the net with you standing aside.
I think you know that too, well I've stepped down as Trust Secretary and the sub committee has disbanded- probably in your eyes good news,as you'll get more peace, but you must realise you might have to bang your own drum.
Lets hope things work out …for the sake of the customers.
