In what was a poor game at Dens Park tonight, early promise by Dundee failed to materialise as the game progressed and in the end a draw was probably a fair result.
It took the Dees only minutes to take the lead. A neat ball to Mark Robertson out on the right, a good low cross and there was STEVEN ROBB to score at the second attempt. His first shot was well blocked by Craig Gordon in goal but Steven followed up to beat the keeper with the rebound.
Dundee looked good and dominated the first half. But they failed to add the goals their fine outfield play deserved. With Zurab and Brash excelling in defence, Giorgi and Robertson controlling the midfield, it looked at one point as if Dundee would score the proverbial barrow load.
But it wasn't to be and the second half saw Hearts coming more and more into the game, though it was well into the second half before they troubled Soutar in goal with any kind of shot worthy of the name.
They equalised near the end when Soutar was beaten by a blistering drive that came back off the far post straight to a Hearts player who netted in style.
The game ended like a damp squib with neither team having the cutting edge to score again.
Dundee lined up as follows: GOAL - DEREK SOUTAR who was seldom troubled and had little chance with the goal. DEFENCE: STEVEN NAREY - Battled away as he always does and played alright. ZURAB KHIZANISHVILLI - Quality performance, never gave Hearts a sniff at the goal until he was moved into midfield and this left gaps at the back. LEE MAIR - Did alright but tends to dive into tackles at times. KRISTOFER BRASH - Possibly the man of the match, his scintillating runs down the left at speed, neat skills and great tackling and fiery play was amazing to see. Had to come off after a dreadful tackle that should but didn't lead to a red card. He plays the game with a passion that mekes one think here could be a great player for the future. MIDFIELD: GIORGI NEMSADZE - Didn't have to break sweat and showed some neat touches and great distribution. He did take a knock to his knee and when he came off Dundee fell out of the game. MARK ROBERTSON - Looked comfortable on the ball, used it pretty well and started a lot of good attacking moves. GAVIN BEITH - Hot and cold, some excellent moments in which he showed neat skills. Not enough of them, though. ATTACK:- STEVEN ROBB - Played wide on the right mostly. Took his goal well but did tend to overdo the dribbling when a pass into the box might have been more productive. STEVEN MILNE - Seldom have I seen Savo so completely out of a game. Not a patch on the scintillating form he showed against United recently. DUNCAN MCLEAN - Worked hard and always gives his all, but another who had an average performance. SUBS:--ALAN YOUNGSON for KRIS BRASH - Alan's a good player and he held his men well when he came on for our best player. STEVEN WATSON for GIORGI NEMSADZE: When this change was made Zurab moved into Giorgi's position with young Stevie moving to Centre Half. A bit out with his marking at the goal, which began with a free header in the penalty area. NOT USED: STEVEN VANDERDEYL AND BOBBY LINN.
